Commands were prefixed with an “Execute CICS” identifier – EXEC CICS. Over several CICS releases, Command level became the official programming interface for CICS applications, and Macro level was stabilized and then withdrawn from support within the product.Ĭommand level programming had many benefits over the older style Macro level interface into CICS. Macro level did not provide as rich a programming interface into CICS as was required, however, and in response to this, CICS development provided the alternative Command level programming interface to address this.
